How AI Changed Group Work and Projects
The Beginning: Group Work Was Messy
When I entered my first year of college, I thought group projects would be fun — new friends, teamwork, late-night discussions. But reality felt different. Our first assignment was a presentation on Artificial Intelligence in Daily Life, and coordinating five people with different schedules was chaos. Someone was free in the morning, another only at night, someone forgot what part they had to do, and honestly, sometimes even I didn’t know what was happening.
We created a WhatsApp group, but instead of discussions, it became full of “any updates?”, “will do tomorrow”, and laughing emojis. Days passed, and the deadline started breathing down our necks. We were stressed, confused, and slightly nervous.
That’s when someone said — “Let’s use AI tools yaar, it will save time.”
And from that moment, things changed.
First Step: AI Helped Us Organise
We started using an AI note and task manager (Notion /Click-Up type). It allowed us to divide work quickly. We added tasks like:
-
Intro + definition
-
History of AI
-
Current applications
-
Future scope
-
Conclusion + design slides
Everyone picked their part. No more confusion. No more “mujhe yaad nahi tha.”
For the first time, it felt like we were actually working as a team.
Creating the Presentation Together
When we began preparing slides, we used AI slide tools for layout ideas. Before that, our PPT looked like a school project — plain white slides, random fonts, sometimes even spelling mistakes.
But AI suggested:
-
colourful layouts
-
font combinations
-
content placement
-
relevant icons and pictures
Suddenly, our presentation started looking professional.
We were shocked — “Yeh humne banaya? Sach mein?”
There was excitement in the room for the first time.
Writing the Report without Panic
The report section scared us the most. We needed formatting, references, headings — and honestly, none of us were experts.
AI helped summarise articles, generate reference formats, structure paragraphs, and even corrected grammar. We didn’t copy blindly — we rewrote, discussed, added our examples, and made it our own. AI wasn’t doing our work for us, it was doing it with us.
It felt like having an extra smart team member who never complained, never got tired.
Late-Night Collaboration Felt Easier
One night we were completing our final draft. It was almost 12:30 AM — everyone sleepy, but pushing through. We used an AI voice tool to convert long text to speech and listen to it instead of reading. We played, paused, corrected — laughing whenever the AI mispronounced an Indian word.
I still remember that moment —
sleepy eyes, half-eaten biscuits, cold chai on the table, but a team full of energy.
For the first time, group work felt fun, not stressful.
On Presentation Day
We stood in front of the class — nervous but prepared. AI had generated a mock Q&A for us, so we already practiced possible questions. When the teacher asked something tricky, we answered confidently. Our PPT looked neat, the flow was smooth, and teamwork was visible.
When the teacher said, “Good work, very well structured,”we exchanged side smiles like champions.
It wasn’t just a project. It was a memory — something we built together.
What I Learned From This Experience
AI didn’t replace human effort.
It made our effort faster, easier, and more organized.
We still discussed ideas, we still wrote content, we still practiced delivery.
But AI helped us:
-
save time
-
avoid arguments
-
stay organised
-
be creative
-
present confidently
Group projects no longer feel like a burden. They feel like collaboration.
Final Thoughts
AI changed how we work as a group. It reduced stress, saved late-night panic, and made our projects look polished. It didn’t take away the learning part — it improved it. Now whenever a new assignment comes, someone always says, “will use AI , work will be easier".
And we all nod with a tired but happy smile, remembering that first project.
